In partnership with Xmission Internet Services, Mayor Rocky Anderson announces "free" Salt Lake City Wireless Internet.
“Thanks to the generosity and community-spirit of Xmission, people who visit, work, and live in our downtown will have free access to wireless internet service along our Main Street,” said Mayor Anderson. “This service will further our effort to enliven downtown and continue Salt Lake City’s tradition of being at the cutting edge of innovations in technology.”
The free wireless internet service is being provided, at no cost to Salt Lake City, by Xmission. In 2006 free wireless internet service will also be available at Pioneer Park and at Liberty Park.
Posters and stickers with the SLC Wi-Fi logo will be placed along Main Street to remind people that they are in the free internet “zone.” Also, the city will provide Main Street businesses with cards they can hand out to customers providing simple information about how to access the free wireless system.
